Star Miner was written around the bass riff that appears in the beginning and end. It was specifically written to incorporate different styles that the band appreciated. The sections incorporate metal, early rock and roll and gothic music influences. The sheet that contained the original order of the song's sections was lost and the song was structured during mixing into it's current form (this also led to a decision to remove a second verse and course section).
