NecRomance was the first song written for Blackened Sea (The Isolated was carried over from the band's previous release) and was added to the band's live set in 2011. The song was also the first song recorded for the album and worked as a tester for recording techniques that would be used for other songs.

The track was recorded fully two times (minus vocals on the first version) because the band did not feel the first attempt had the correct energy or "punch" to it.

NecRomance was used as the band's closer during live shows all the way up until the release of Blackened Sea. It also originally had different lyrics during the slower interlude but they were later reworked.
